JAMES R. THARP, DDS
Dr. James Tharp received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from Northwestern University. He has been practicing dentistry for over 35 years and has completed several courses offered by the Pankey Institute and Dawson Academy. He is a Fellow and member of the International Academy of Mini Dental Implants and has just completed the requirements for Mastership status.
Dr. Tharp is currently an evaluator for the Gordon Christensen Clinicians Report. He has studied with Joe Massad (prosthodontics specialist) at the Massad Institute. He has taught for over twenty five years in several areas of dentistry in seventeen different states, and three countries. He has dedicated his professional career to providing you with the best that dentistry has to offer. Dr. Tharp believes when you love your work, it shows.
Outside of work Dr. Tharp enjoys playing ice hockey, hiking mountain trails, and being a flying instructor. He enjoys a variety of music and loves to dance.
Nicole is a 2007 graduate of Prairie State College with an Associate degree in Applied Science for dental hygiene. She takes pride in her work by attending continuing education seminars and lectures on all the latest research and technology to be able to provide excellent hygiene care for our guests. She is very thorough and gentle when she cleans teeth. This is a rare combination. She can access the health of gums so gently that you hardly even know you are at the dentist. She is our guardian of the gums.
Her passion for dental hygiene has inspired her to help start a dental clinic on an orphanage in the Dominican Republic and she has also volunteered her services with the team, Mission of Mercy, which offered free dental care to over 1,900 people in two days.
Outside of work, she is a proud mom and loves spending time with family and friends, enjoys running, biking, ceramics, scrapbooking, and traveling. One of her favorite vacations being a three week trip all throughout Europe. At Tharp Dental, her gentle touch, meticulous instrumentation, and communication skills make her a valuable asset to our team.
Michelle has over 18 years of experience in the dental field and currently holds the title of expanded duties dental assistant. She achieved her expanded duties degree at the University of Illinois Dental School and her Degree of Surgical Technology from Moraine Valley Community College. In addition to her normal duties her extensive training and experience allows her to complete coronal polishing, suture removals, the placement of sealants and countless other procedures. Her extensive experience in oral surgery and implant placement makes these procedures effortless. Michelle keeps on the cutting edge of dental technology by continuously attending educational seminars in order to bring the best possible dentistry to our guests. She has also worked as a legal secretary and has run several offices. Her extensive clinical expertise, as well as her outstanding communication skills, makes her a valuable asset to our team. She always uses our office policy of “What would you want in your own mouth?”
She is originally from the South Side of Chicago and currently lives in Oak Lawn. She comes from a large Greek and Italian family and spends most of her free time with them. Michelle speaks 5 languages (including English, French, Spanish, as well as some Greek and Italian) and loves to travel. She has traveled extensively around the U.S. (especially to Michigan where she has a lake house), but has also been to Italy, France, Monaco, and Spain. Throughout all of her travels Las Vegas still remains one of her favorite destinations.
Dr. Tharp has been known to say that she is the best assistant he has ever worked with. Her ability to help our guests understand their treatment options is outstanding. She actually makes people feel good about coming to the dentist.
Kathy, Front Desk
Kathy was born on the south side of Chicago and currently lives in Joliet with her two daughters and two grandsons. She also visits with her two sons and two additional grandkids often.
Kathy has worked in the dental field for over 25 years. She was a dental assistant for ten years and has been working as a dental receptionist and insurance specialist for the past fifteen years. Kathy has the unique ability to get the maximum benefits from your insurance company. She goes above and beyond to help our guests with any questions they may have regarding their dental treatment. She treats you the way you would want to be treated. She is also very empathetic to your concerns and will find time in our schedule to get you in as soon as possible.
Outside of work Kathy enjoys cooking, gardening, and watching Chicago sports with friends. One of her favorite travel destinations is the gulf side of Florida.
