Nitrous oxide is more commonly known as laughing gas. It is used in dentistry for its aesthetic and analgesic effects.
Depending on the concentration and length of time of administration, four levels of sedation can be experienced:
A tingling sensation, especially in the arms and legs
Warm sensation throughout the body
A feeling of well-being, euphoria and/or floating.
At a deeper level of sedation, sleepiness
The effects disappear very rapidly after the gas is removed allowing you to be able to drive yourself to and from appointments.
